Brief History of Lazers Track Club

Les Young founded lazers Track Club in 1992, serious injuries after injuries plaque his career therefore he made the transition from athlete to coach.  He is now focusing his attention to the development of young athletes in the fundamentals of track and field.  The first practice was on the dirt track of Brunswick Senior High in Lawrenceville VA, with eight Charter Members.  The first six years Lazers Track Club was a youth track club targeting only ages six through 18.

The Club then added a Masters component, which started in 1998 with one charter member coach Les Young.  In 1999 Norfolk became the home of the new Lazers Track Club, now serving all ages, paces and races.  The first practice held on the concrete track at Granby High School in Norfolk VA with twelve members.  In 2002, the club became a member of the well-known Atlantic Coast Track League under the guidance of Kermit Foster and Walt Green.  The club soon grew to over 100 members we were servicing track athletes in the Hampton Roads area, Emporia, Petersburg and Richmond areas.  We expanded to having practices in Richmond, Emporia, Norfolk, Suffolk, Chesapeake, and Portsmouth.  By 2004, Lazers Track Club obtained its 501c status and went on to win the coveted Atlantic Coast Championship for the next two years.

Over the past 18 years Lazers Track Club have seen many great athletes with over hundreds of AAU/USA all districts/regional/and state performers.  The alumni base for Lazers Track Club is now 147 and counting.  Between 2007and 2010 Lazers Track club was inactive for youths only servicing the elite athletes like All-Americans Andre Faulcon, Leon Hunt, and Troy Wilkerson and elite masters like Donald Bond and Coach Young.

Lazers Track Club is once again active for the youths, which is the real reason Lazers was founded. On June 19, 2010 Lazers Track Club competed in the Atlantic Coast with 12 members as young as Quentin Greene and as old as resent college graduates ALL-American Hoova Taylor and All-CIAA Faith Brock.

We are currently looking for a home track to train and develop our future scholarship athletes.

Lazers track club presently house subsidiaries in Norfolk under the guidance of Coach Henry, Virginia Beach under the guidance of Coaches Glenroy and Portia Green, Emporia under the guidance of Coach Cain and Petersburg, Colonial Heights and Dinwiddie under the guidance of the Coach Young.

Lazers Track Club is committed to teaching the fundamentals of Track and field to all ages and paces by providing an opportunity to train.  The club motto is “striving for excellence in academics and athletics through the powers of the Almighty”
